Just a Reminder: This is NOT a Dress Rehearsal

That’s right folks this life is not a dress rehearsal, I don’t believe you get to do it again. So as we spend our time being less social we have an amazing opportunity to go inward and reassess our priorities and be extremely selective as to how we want to spend all the days of our lives. And I say this without doom and gloom but rather with excitement and wonderment.

I am not sure about you but I had always been one to think “I’ll do it tomorrow” or “next year”. Well, I woke up one day and I’m 60 years old and as many of you may say to yourself “how did that happen?”. I remember getting out of school for the summer and thinking the rest of June, July and August were an eternity. My late mother used to say to me as I was growing up “the older you get the faster it goes” but of course none of us want to believe our mothers.

What the Covid-19 pandemic has brought forth to me and should bring to the forefront of your mind is that none of us know how much time we have on this earth. While it is true we didn’t know this prior to the pandemic, we must certainly be hyper-aware of it now. For those who are waiting for things to get back to “normal”, it appears they are going to have to wait a very long time and it looks like we all may be experiencing the “new normal” for some time to come.

As we continue to work mainly from home, social distance, and mask up let’s create our bucket lists, start to check off what we can or would like to get done, and focus on the things we are excited about and what the future may hold. Let’s take our minds off of Covid-19, race relations in the US, and the political strife surrounding it all — at least for today!

Here’s part of my list

  1. Spend a little quality time with those I love — done and will continue to do
  2. Start to write — done
  3. Work on our business instead of in our business — in progress
  4. Evaluate our finances and make sure things are in order should anything happen to either one of us — done (may need some tweaking:)
  5. Start to paint or draw
  6. Read novels on a regular basis — in progress
  7. Support the ARTS in any way possible — can do better
  8. When the pandemic is over — travel to several places (too numerous to name)
  9. When the pandemic is over- go see plays, concerts, enjoy culinary delights at all of our favorite restaurants (that I am hoping will survive).

GET GOING no time for being paralyzed by fear or to wallow in self-pity. Start living your life and not just dreaming what your life can be. It's easy to feel a little blue, heck even Michelle Obama said she is experiencing a little “low-grade depression”. And remember there are good meds for that…

This is NOT a dress rehearsal.

Stay strong, be well and stay safe.
